Pre Parliament Event for volunteers and interns of CYDA’s –
A Youth4Change initiative
On October 28, 2009 Centre for Youth Development Activities organized a "Symposium
on Secularism: Hearing each other, Redefining Secularism" as a
pre parliament event to the Melbourne Parliament of the World’s Religions to be
held in Australia from 3rd to 9th Dec 2009.
The symposium had an interesting participation from volunteers of Youth4Change in
CYDA and the interns from Germany & Holland. There
were some interns from the neighboring districts of Pune & rural areas of Nandurbar,Sangli,
Amravati sharing their insights and stories.
Starting with devotional prayers and songs, the facilitators made a brief presentation
on the main parliament event in Melbourne.
Thereafter, the participants discussed the varied questions asked across the world
through the Global Questions Campaign and moved on to questions
that arose within the group. Using the tool of Appreciative Inquiry and the understanding
of Emotional Intelligence; the participants heard each other intensely and formed
new connections. One question, for example was about which religious or cultural
event influenced your point of view in life. Another question was what kind of world
would you like to live in.
Participants responded with their views which were like: "Harmony, Care, and
Concern, for fellow human beings", "renounce egoistic nature", and
"World Peace" in general
After the discussion, everyone lit a candle of hope and determination and was in
a reflective mood, going through the experience of the event and dreaming about
how each one could contribute to the world. In the words of Sheila "I felt
a positive energy flow and it was a good experience all in all".
The Pre parliament Event was facilitated by Ms.Reena Ginwala and Mr.Kunal Turakhia.
CYDA will actively
share and discuss these themes in the upcoming South Asian Youth Camp being held
at Pune between Feb 01-05, 2010.
